Student Assistant - R&D Support

Gain practical experience with energy solutions in an international environment
High-temperature superconducting cables (HTS) are set to play a significant role in the energy systems of tomorrow, and NKT is at the forefront of this development. As part of the EUDP-funded CoSCaRES project, you will contribute to advancing HTS cable and cooling technology for future high-voltage applications. You will work closely with specialists in superconductivity and cryogenics and have the chance to expand your technical skills through real-world laboratory experience. Are you motivated by the opportunity to shape innovative technologies that support the green transition?

Support innovative development of HTS technology
In this role, you will be part of our experienced R&D team, contributing to the qualification of HTS wires and supporting improvements across measurement systems, cryostat efficiency, and vacuum maintenance technologies. You will work in laboratory environments and handle real data used to advance high-voltage HTS cable systems. Your work will directly support the preparation of components for high-voltage testing and help progress the project’s technical milestones.

You will:

  • Measure and qualify HTS wires from various suppliers
  • Improve testing and measurement systems for HTS wires
  • Contribute to thermal insulation (“cryostat”) efficiency development
  • Test and qualify vacuum maintenance materials
  • Interpret and present laboratory and test data

You will collaborate with our R&D specialists and work on-site at our facility in Brøndby, Denmark.

Curious and collaborative student interested in energy innovation
You enjoy working in a research-oriented environment where curiosity, structure, and collaboration are essential. You thrive when solving technical challenges and take initiative in laboratory work as well as analytical tasks. You communicate clearly, contribute positively to your team, and show a genuine interest in supporting technologies enabling a greener future.

You also have:

  • Enrolment in or completion of courses in a Master’s program within Electrical Engineering, Physics, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Basic understanding of cryogenics and superconducting technology
  • Interest in laboratory work with cryogenic and vacuum systems
  • Proficiency in English
